Amendment to the GOI order
banning imports of all Poultry and Pork products
INDIA, July 16, 2004 -- On July 7, 2004, the Department of
Animal Husbandry and Dairying (DAHD), Ministry of Agriculture,
issued a Gazette announcement partially modifying their
earlier ban (Order number S.O. 155 (E)) on all poultry and
pork products imports.

Agricultural Highlights
INDIA, July 16, 2004 -- On July 8, the GOI revealed its
budget for Indian Fiscal Year 2004/05. The budget, adhering to
the UPA's populist and rural election-mandate, offered no new
market openings. Rather, it imposed an additional surcharge on
all taxes, including customs duties, and focused on the
financial health of the agricultural sector and poverty
alleviation.

VIETNAM, July 16, 2004 -- Vietnamese domestic rice prices
dropped by VND 300-400/kg (or about $20-27/mt) due to the peak
harvest of the Summer-Autumn rice in the Mekong River Delta.
Export prices, however, changed very little from those of last
week.
