Advice for kinoo export to Philippines
KARACHI (March 12 2003) : Several containers carrying kinoo consignments had been detained at Manila Port by the Bureau of Customs, Philippines.
The consignments were packed in wooden crates, which is prohibited in Philippines, and arrived without proper documentation for fitness by unauthentic exporter from Pakistan.
In a letter to Pakistan Ambassador at Makati, Iftikhar Hussein Kazmi, Henry O, President of Philippines Federation of Fruit Industry Inc (PFFI), who import and export fruits in Philippine, referred to its members' visit to Pakistan on January 18 this year.
The delegation was accompanied by Department of Agriculture officials to negotiate for allowing Pakistan's citrus fruits into Philippines. This visit also aimed to promote the bilateral trade between the two countries.
Henry said, "Due to misinformation, most of the new and inexperienced importers have brought in kinoos from unauthenticated exporters who have no processing facilities and even the commodity was packed in wooden crates (boxes) which is prohibited in Philippines.
These containers were also imported from locations other than Sargodha in Pakistan. Besides, many of the containers were imported without any necessary import permit and 'Phytosanitary Certificate' and were held up by the Bureau of Custom, Philippines at Manila Port.
He said that this could create a bad impression and image to the authentic exporters of kinoos and also create so many problems, chaos and confusion to the genuine importer, like PFFI.
Henry advised all fruit importers and exporters to co-ordinate and negotiate solely with PFFI to prevent any further problems, chaos, confusion in future.
He also urged them to promote bilateral trade between Pakistan and Philippines.
