Directive to complete
agri zone demarcation
KARACHI: The Provincial
Agriculture Minister, Hasan Ali Chaniho, has directed the
agriculture department to complete the demarcation work of the
proposed Agriculture Export Processing Zone by March 15 and
determine the standards for trade registration in the zone and
ownership rights.
He issued the directive while reviewing the pace of progress
made so far in connection with the establishment of the
proposed Agriculture Export Processing Zone at the Super
Highway here on Friday. The minister said that after
completion of the demarcation work, the President would
hopefully perform the inauguration of this unique project of
South Asia on March 23, thus ushering in a new era of
development in Sindh's agriculture.
He directed the concerned officers to frame a level of
eligibility for farmers and exporters intending to enter trade
in the zone. He said the aspirant should be educated one, was
not a defaulter, had the knowledge of intricacies and
requirements of export, was well versed with post-harvesting
techniques and could export at least 80 per cent of his
produce. The minister said that they would also have to
construct their godowns and sheds, use certified seed and
nurseries and would employ at least one agriculture graduate
for working with them.
