Pakissan iVAN.
Islamabad -(February 14th, 2002) Pakissan.com launched its Internet van, which would carry Internet to farmer's doorstep. The Minister for Science and Technology (Most), Dr Atta ur Rehman
inaugurated the novel idea.
The latest move by the Pakissan.com,
Pakissan iVan, is an innovative new step to Bridge the Digital Divide in the Pakistan's Agriculture sector.
The Van is being launched under the banner of "Pakissan iVAN" with a slogan of "Taking internet to farmers".
Speaking on the Occasion, the minister highly appreciated the Pakissan iVAN and hoped that it would be prove to be a catalyst in attracting the farmer to the internet so that he can harness internets power to his benefit. He wished the Pakissan (Pak Kissan) Team all the best.
Speaking about the significance of Van, the Executive of Pakissan.com, Majid Rafiq said that Van hosts a modest internet ready equipment and set up. It is geared to be used by new comers.
He said that van has been launched
for
• Internet training
to the farmer and the community youth.
• Orientation to Agri
web sites.
• To improve upon our
efforts based on farmers feedback.
• Encourage the local
community to use internet.
• To initiate formation of
Pakissan Tele-centers.
Regular trips to different farming areas will be planned in coordination with farmer organizations.
He said that Pakissan.com
was launched by a group of Lahore based professionals from media as well as I.T in 2001. However, now this has emerged as the largest website of country on Agriculture, and this fact has been confirmed and certified by international institutions. He hoped that the Pakissan.com
would continue to serve the agriculture sector of the country by connecting the Agri-community. He said Pakissan iVAN project
would be instrumental in bridging the digital divide in the agriculture sector.
