New variety of wheat
Tando Jam-Member, Bio-Sciences, Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission (PAEC), Dr. Kausar Abdullah Malik has urged Agriculture Scientists to invent such variety of cotton & wheat which requires less water and produce above normal yield to enable cope with water scarcity.
He was speaking as Chief Guest in a reception organized by Nuclear Institute of Tando Jam here the other day to celebrate Farmers Day and said that it is need of the hour to work on variety of cotton producing more yield with less water.
He also advised against use of fertilizer and insecticide to retain ferlity of soil and maintained that unfortunately most of our researched techniques were never applied in farms.
Dr. Malik disclosed that government has plans to produce Variety Protection Act, which would be placed before federal cabinet for approval.
Dr. Raziuddin Ansari, Director Nuclear Institute of Agriculture (NIA), Tando Jam revealed that NIA has been able to produce "Marvi" and "Momal" two variety of wheat per acre production of which are more than normal wheat production.
President, Chamber of Agriculture, Sindh, Syed Qamaruzzaman Shah, VC Agriculture University, Dr. Bashir Ahmed Chandio, President, Growers Forum Sindh, Noor Ahmed Nizamani, Syed Khurshid and others also spoke on the occasin.
