Fisheries deptt working on integrated farming
PESHAWAR-The Fisheries department was working on a task of
introducing the concept of integrated farming with the
objective of promotion and development of farming in NWFP.
In this regard a project was under review for experimental
integration of agriculture, poultry and fish farms at
government owned Sher Abad fish farm on the outskirts of
Peshawar, informed Director Fisheries, Sultan Ahmad Awan.
"We are studying feasibility study of integrated farming and
contemplating over to undertake an experiment on this concept
at Sher Abad fish farm," he added. "If the result was
encouraging, further efforts would be made to find out
suitable localities for establishment of integrated farms in
the province with involvement of communities," said Director
Fisheries.
Sultan said, we should become cognizant to new developments
and ideas taking place in the world and take initiative for
getting advantage of these. He said the integrated farming was
not a new concept in western countries where a number of such
farms have been development and showed good results.
He was also of the view that success of integrated farming
would play a significant role in development and boost of
farming. As, he continued, with the establishment of more than
one farms at single site would not only reduce expenditure,
but the waste of one can be used as fertilizer for other. The
electricity charges, employees salary, property purchase or
rent and other expenditures are distributed in integrated
farming, he added.
To a question about increased investment in integrated
farming, Sultan Ahmad observed that groups can be formed for
investing in such farming. Furthermore, he continued,
government can also be approached for extending easy loan
facility for promotion of integrated farming.
He said, the Bank of Khyber had already started loaning on
easy terms for fisheries. Similarly, the BoK can also extend
the same facility for integrated farming.
