Wheat price
to be increased: Moin
DADU -The wheat price would be increased and all the wheat
stock lying with the growers would be purchased at the
government rate. This was said by the federal interior
minister, Moinuddin Haider, while speaking to Nazims , Naib
Nazims and councillors at the Zila council hall Dadu and
public gathering at Mehar town on Friday.
He said that Sindh was getting its due share of water but the
bureaucrats were not using it properly. He added that for the
improvement of irrigation system in Sindh, President Gen
Pervez Musharraf had allocated Rs10 billion using which repair
of canals, desilting and other works would be carried out.
He assured that the more loans would be advanced to small
growers from Rs1,00,000 to Rs1 million through the ADBP. He
added that he had directed the high officials of the ADBP not
to arrest the small growers in lieu of loan recovery in the
areas of Sindh where the growers had not received due share of
irrigation water.
He claimed that the government had recovered Rs100 billion
from the corrupt bureaucrats who had looted the money through
illegal means.
He said that to improve the management of police department,
the President had released Rs450 million, while the Sindh
government had released Rs150 million. Referring to
recruitment in police department, he said that 4000 constables
and 1500 ASIs were appointed in the department on merit in the
province.
About development schemes, the minister said that Sehwan
Barrage would be completed with a cost of Rs42 billion and six
more canals would be dug from this barrage, which would
irrigate barren land. He added that after completion of Reni
canal, the state land would be distributed among poor farmers.
He informed that the government would distribute Rs500 million
among the poor people in the various part of the country
through the Nazims so that they could establish their
business.
He disclosed that the federal cabinet had decided to allocate
more funds for the municipals' town committees on the head of
salaries.
