WB mission,
PARC discuss agri scenario
ISLAMABAD: A five-member World Bank mission held discussions
with chairman Pakistan Agriculture Research Council (PARC) Dr
Badruddin Soomro and his team of executive members, on the
current agriculture scenario and future government policies on
the restructuring of entire farm sector research system of the
country.
The WB Mission led by Sakwa Bunyasi inquired about the
restructuring plans of entire agriculture research system of
Pakistan and desired to know the policy framework for private
sector research.
According to a press note issued by PARC Director Public
Relations, Dr Badruddin Soomro informed the foreign delegates
that presently the PARC had no formal links with the extension
services. But, he pointed out it is now actively trying to
develop an Ordinance allowing the Council to involve
officially in extension services.
Technology transfer units are needed in all the establishments
scattered in the provinces, he remarked adding the integration
of research with extension is the PARC's top priority. The
team included Gajan Pathamanathan, Sector Manager Rural
Development South Asia region; Constance Bernard, Sector
Director Research Development Sector Unit; Adolfo Brizzi,
Sector Manager Rural Development Sector unit-special units,
South Asia and Rashidul Qayyum, Senior Agriculture Specialist,
South Asia Rural Sector Development units World Bank.
