Rs. 640 million for agriculture development
ISLAMABAD-An amount of Rs. 640 million will be spent for the
uplift of agriculture sector and to facilitate the growers
enabling them to accelerate the pace of agricultural
development in the country.
According to official sources a development package involving
an amount of Rs. 500 million has been approved for the
project. Besides, an amount of Rs. 131 million will also be
made available for completion of on going project to enhance
Agricultural growth in the country.
An amount of Rs. 5 million is likely to be spent for
accelerated promotion of Olive Oil cultivation in NWFP and
Potohar areas. The extension of Agriculture programme will be
provided an amount of Rs. 4 million, the source said.
The agricultural package of Rs. 500 million envisages setting
up number of projects including productivity enhancement model
of 100 villages, Improving of Marketing System and Integration
of Agriculture.
Some other projects including establishment of Agro-service
centres, Tea plantation in NWFP, promotion of Bio-farming,
Acquaculture Farming, Substitution of High Delta Crops like
Sugarcane with low Delta Crops like Sugarbeet, Promotion of
Integrated Pest Management and value addition of Horticulture
Crops, Installation of 474 tubewells in Lower Sindh and
Upgrading and improving Efficiency of Oil Extraction have also
been formed part of development plan.
On going projects included Establishment of National
Veterinary Lab-Islamabad will be provided Rs. 50 million,
Oilpalm Development Pilot Project Rs. 5 million, Establishment
of Pilot Black Tea Processing Plant Manshera Rs. 5 million,
National Arid Land Development and Research Programme Rs. 10
million, Tea research and development programme Manshera Rs. 4
million .
