Free of cost cotton seeds assured

KARACHI-Commerce Minister Abdul Razzak Dawood has assured the growers in Balochistan that he will request the Chief Executive of Pakistan to provide free of cost cotton seeds this year to them like previous year.

He was talking to growers and ginners of Balochistan at Usta Mohammad on December 4, 2001. Federal Agriculture Minister Khair Mohammad Junejo, Chairman Trading Corporation of Pakistan (TCP) Syed Masood Alam Rizvi were also with him.
The Minister said that growers were given free of cost cotton seeds last year for motivating them to cultivate cotton in Balochistan.

This year the crop is good, but there is still a need to cultivate even better cotton crop next year, he added. Mr Dawood advised the growers to produce contamination-free cotton to bring this area on the world map as quality cotton producer.

Referring to cotton from Zimbabwe, he said that this country is now known internationally for growing contamination-free cotton and he wishes that Balochistan should also follow this example .“I want to see that Balochistan must emerge as a producer of contamination-free cotton on world map in next three to four years”, Dawood said.

He said that for this purpose, a hard work is required by cotton growers, experts and officials. The Minister said that private sector would be persuaded to set up a ginning factory in Khuzdar as the district is producing a good quality cotton. He reiterated that TCP would purchase all cotton from Balochistan which is expected to reap
100,000 bales this year.

The minister was told that cotton prices were much higher in the area compared to TCP procurement rates. Earlier, both the federal ministers visited three ginning factories at Dera Allahyar and Usta Mohammad.
