Green Channel Scheme being expanded in Punjab

Lahore-The sphere of Green Channel Scheme initiated in Lahore is being expanded all over the province to persuade farmers to carry out self-marketing of their agriculture
products.

The expansion of the scheme is aimed at ending of exploitation of farmers at the hands of middlemen (Aarratis) so that the farmers could get right and timely earnings of their products and the masses could get fresh vegetable and fruits at cheaper prices.

The provincial minister for law Dr. Khalid Ranjha said this while talking to buyers during surprise inspections of the Ramazan Bazaars in various localities here on Tuesday.

The minister said the green channel scheme would continue even after Ramazan-ul-Mubarak and the Government was educating farmers across the province to gain benefits from the scheme by selling their agri products directly to the users.

"The Punjab government is planning to set up modern cold storage for preserving vegetables and fruits for a long time with a view to sustain their nourishment with the cooperation of private sector," the minister said. "From where these eatables would be exported to Pakistani and foreign markets."

Dr. Ranjha urged the shopkeepers to sell their items at "no loss no profit basis" during the sacred month of Ramazan-ul-Mubarak to fulfill the purpose of setting up low-cast Ramazan Bazaars.

The provincial minister directed the district administration to keep the prices of commodities in control at these bazaars while ensuring the provision of standardized fruits and vegetables in abundance.
